Ay! Caramba Gets Entertainment License Cape Cod Chronicle August 31, 2006 The board of selectmen Monday approved a weekday entertainment license for Mendoford, Inc., d/b/a Ay Caramba Café in Harwich center. Police Chief William Mason told the board his department had no objections. He said a background investigation indicates no disqualifying violations. He pointed out the café has had occasional entertainment events similar to the ones proposed in the application without any negative police intervention. But the police chief cautioned the board about the café's close proximity to a church, businesses and residential homes. He also admitted attempting to limit sound to the premises is not possible. “Entertainment sounds, amplified or acoustical, may carry blocks depending upon the atmospheric and ambient noise conditions,” Mason said. Owner Ira Mendoza said music enhances the dinning experience and has worked out well in the past. She said it would be folk music, steel drums or mariachi players moving from table to table, not live bands with drums. Chamber of Commerce President Richard Waystack praised the operation, pointing out that the chamber, Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, and SCORE chose the café for the “Build a Better Mouse Trap,” award this year for establishing a successful business in the first five years of operation. Selectmen agreed to approve the entertainment license. Having a license would be easier than coming to selectmen each time music is planned, Mendoza said. Back to reviews |
